General Therapy Questions
Is therapy right for me?
Therapy offers a supportive and safe space to better understand yourself. It’s an investment in your well-being, an opportunity to explore how your past influences your present, and to learn tools that help you live in greater alignment with who you truly are.
I believe therapy is a gift at any stage of life—not only for yourself, but for those around you. You deserve the space to grow, heal, and step into the fullest version of who you are becoming.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Each therapy journey is unique; what we focus on will be shaped by your personal goals and needs. Together, we’ll co-create a space that supports your growth.
Our sessions may include reflecting on the past to understand patterns, exploring your emotions, processing difficult experiences, and identifying what truly matters to you. I’ll tailor my approach to support your specific path.
Therapy is most effective when you’re willing to be open and honest with yourself and with me. That openness creates space for clarity, healing, and meaningful change.
What modalities are right for me?
Different therapeutic approaches support different parts of the healing process. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns. Internal Family Systems (IFS) explores the various “parts” of your personality, like your inner critic or protector, and traces them back to formative moments, making it especially powerful for inner-child work. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a somatic technique that helps the brain reprocess trauma using bilateral stimulation.
I integrate these and other modalities to create a holistic, personalized approach tailored to your needs. My goal is to bring my training and experience to support your growth in the way that best fits you. And if you’re ever curious about a particular method, I’m always happy to explain more.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be a helpful tool in managing symptoms, especially in the short term, but it doesn’t address the root causes of emotional distress. Therapy helps you explore and understand the underlying patterns, experiences, and beliefs that may be contributing to your current challenges.
Research has shown that a combination of medication and counseling is the most effective approach, and I’m happy to support you in exploring that path if needed. That said, many people find meaningful and lasting relief through therapy alone, especially when using evidence-based modalities. Our work together will focus on understanding your experience and strengthening the inner resources that support your healing and growth.
Are online therapy sessions as effective as in-person ones?
Yes, research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress-related concerns. The key to effective therapy is the quality of the connection between you and your therapist, not the room you’re in.
Online therapy offers added convenience and accessibility, allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort of your home or wherever you feel safe and private. As long as you have a strong internet connection and a quiet space, you can experience meaningful progress and support through virtual sessions.
What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to a friend or family member?
Having supportive friends and family is incredibly valuable; they care about you and want the best for you. But those relationships often come with their own dynamics, expectations, and emotional investments.
Therapy offers something different: a confidential space that’s entirely focused on you, without outside agendas. As a therapist, my role is to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I can offer new perspectives, teach useful tools, and gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I’m trained to sit with difficult emotions and support you through them; not rush to fix things, but to help you make sense of them and find your own way forward.
How long will it take?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer as each person’s journey is unique. The length of time in therapy depends on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, your level of commitment, and your readiness for change.
Many people begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and later move to bi-weekly as they gain stability and insight. Together, we’ll regularly assess your progress to ensure therapy continues to support your needs. Sessions are typically 50 or 80 minutes long.
How do I know if therapy is working for me?
Therapy progress can look different for everyone, but some common signs that it’s working include feeling more self-aware, better able to manage your emotions, experiencing shifts in how you respond to stress, and noticing improved relationships or boundaries. You might also begin to feel more aligned with your values and less overwhelmed by the issues that brought you to therapy in the first place.
It’s normal to have ups and downs in the process, but if you feel safe, heard, and supported, and you’re noticing small but meaningful changes over time, those are strong indicators that therapy is helping. And if you’re ever unsure, we can talk about it together. Your feedback is essential to making therapy feel useful and collaborative.
Is the counseling service confidential?
Absolutely. Your privacy is top priority! As a professional secret keeper, I will not share any part of your story with others. The only thing that I would report to anyone else is if I hear of current child or elder abuse.
Payment Options & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
No, I am not on any insurance panels at this time as I see people from all over the world.
The main benefit of paying out of pocket is that you will not need a formal diagnosis to do the work. When using insurance, one is given a diagnosis that is often on their medical records throughout their future. Insurance companies often have limits to the number of sessions and the type of diagnosis they accept; often, relationship distress is not one of the accepted concerns. Private pay allows the therapist greater autonomy to provide the services they deem are in the client’s best interest. By eliminating the need to diagnose a condition that may or may not fully exist, the therapist can ensure the clients receive ethical, honest, and accurate care.
What is the financial contribution?

Telehealth (Online) Therapy & Digital Nomads
Can I do therapy from home?
Absolutely! I offer secure telehealth therapy for residents of Florida and Oregon. Whether you’re managing a busy schedule, caring for a loved one, or simply prefer the comfort of your own space, online therapy might be the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
How does Telehealth therapy work?
Telehealth therapy gives you the flexibility to meet from anywhere—no commuting, no parking, no rushing across town. If you have limited time or need to stay close to home, it’s a convenient option. As long as you can step into a quiet, private room, therapy is just a click away. Many clients find that this format helps them maintain consistent care, even during particularly full or unpredictable weeks.
Is online therapy secure and private?
Yes! I use secure, GDPR & HIPAA-compliant video technology that allows you to connect with me confidentially from your laptop or phone. It’s as easy as using FaceTime or Skype, but with professional-grade, end-to-end encryption to protect your privacy and therapeutic conversations.
What do I need for Telehealth sessions?
All you need is:
- A phone or laptop with a camera
- Reliable internet connection
- A quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted
- Headphones (recommended for better audio quality and privacy)
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research shows that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many types of concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief, and even EMDR trauma therapy. During your free consultation, we can explore if it’s the right fit for your specific needs.
I am a nomad. Can I see you from the different countries I travel to?
Yes! I love working with nomads and understand the unique challenges of living and working across time zones and cultures. As long as you are a legal resident of a state or region I’m licensed in (currently Florida or Oregon), I am here to support you as you move around! Together, we can find flexible scheduling that works around your lifestyle, no matter where you are in the world.
Can I schedule sessions to fit my time zone?
Yes, I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate different time zones and busy lifestyles. Typically, clients settle into a consistent weekly or bi-weekly time slot to support continuity and progress in therapy. If your schedule varies or you’re looking for deeper, focused work, you might also consider the therapy intensive option.

Therapy Intensives
What are therapy intensives?
Therapy intensives are concentrated therapeutic experiences that provide more focused healing in a shorter timeframe. Instead of weekly 50-minute sessions spread over months, intensives offer multiple hours of therapy over consecutive days, allowing for deeper processing and breakthrough moments.
Who are intensives good for?
Intensives are ideal for people who:
- Can’t commit to weekly therapy due to busy schedules or caregiving responsibilities
- Want to make significant progress quickly
- Are facing major life transitions or decisions
- Have tried traditional therapy but feel stuck
- Prefer deep, concentrated work over gradual progress
- Are ready to invest in intensive healing
How do virtual intensives work?
Virtual intensives can take the form of 3-hour sessions spread out over several weeks, or 3–5 consecutive days with 3–4 hours of therapy each day — all conducted securely via video.
During our time together, we’ll use modalities like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and others, with built-in breaks for processing and integration. This format allows for focused, in-depth work from the comfort of your own space, offering an alternative to traditional weekly therapy for those seeking more immediate progress or support.
What's the difference between intensives and regular therapy?
Regular therapy involves weekly sessions that gradually build progress over time, which can be very beneficial. Intensives compress that timeline, allowing for deeper, more concentrated work. Think of it as the difference between taking a college course over a semester versus an intensive workshop weekend—both can be transformative, but intensives create rapid, focused change.
What happens in a Porto retreat intensive?
Porto retreat intensives combine 4-6 days of intensive therapy with the healing environment of Portugal. You’ll experience concentrated therapeutic work using EMDR and IFS, while also enjoying beautiful accommodations, nourishing meals, and optional cultural experiences. The combination of intensive therapy and restorative environment creates powerful conditions for healing and transformation.
How do I know if intensives are right for me?
During your free 20-minute consultation, we’ll discuss your goals, schedule, and readiness for intensive work. Intensives work best when you’re motivated for change, have some emotional stability, and can commit to the concentrated timeframe. I’ll help you determine if this format aligns with your needs and healing goals.
What kind of preparation is needed for intensives?
Before beginning an intensive, we’ll have a thorough preparation session to establish your goals, ensure you have adequate support systems, and prepare you for the concentrated work. I’ll also provide resources and exercises to help you get the most out of your intensive experience.
Can I do follow-up sessions after an intensive?
Absolutely! Many clients benefit from follow-up integration sessions to process and solidify the work done during their intensive. This helps ensure lasting change and continued support as you implement new insights into your daily life.
Do you offer intensives for couples or groups?
Currently, I specialize in individual intensives.
