Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

Therapy offers a supportive and safe space to better understand yourself. It’s an investment in your well-being, an opportunity to explore how your past influences your present, and to learn tools that help you live in greater alignment with who you truly are.

I believe therapy is a gift at any stage of life—not only for yourself, but for those around you. You deserve the space to grow, heal, and step into the fullest version of who you are becoming.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Each therapy journey is unique; what we focus on will be shaped by your personal goals and needs. Together, we’ll co-create a space that supports your growth.

Our sessions may include reflecting on the past to understand patterns, exploring your emotions, processing difficult experiences, and identifying what truly matters to you. I’ll tailor my approach to support your specific path.

Therapy is most effective when you’re willing to be open and honest with yourself and with me. That openness creates space for clarity, healing, and meaningful change.

Are online therapy sessions as effective as in-person ones?

Yes, research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress-related concerns. The key to effective therapy is the quality of the connection between you and your therapist, not the room you’re in.

Online therapy offers added convenience and accessibility, allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort of your home or wherever you feel safe and private. As long as you have a strong internet connection and a quiet space, you can experience meaningful progress and support through virtual sessions.

What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to a friend or family member?

Having supportive friends and family is incredibly valuable; they care about you and want the best for you. But those relationships often come with their own dynamics, expectations, and emotional investments.

Therapy offers something different: a confidential space that’s entirely focused on you, without outside agendas. As a therapist, my role is to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I can offer new perspectives, teach useful tools, and gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I’m trained to sit with difficult emotions and support you through them; not rush to fix things, but to help you make sense of them and find your own way forward.

What modalities are right for me?

Different therapeutic approaches support different parts of the healing process. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns. Internal Family Systems (IFS) explores the various “parts” of your personality, like your inner critic or protector, and traces them back to formative moments, making it especially powerful for inner-child work. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a somatic technique that helps the brain reprocess trauma using bilateral stimulation.

I integrate these and other modalities to create a holistic, personalized approach tailored to your needs. My goal is to bring my training and experience to support your growth in the way that best fits you. And if you’re ever curious about a particular method, I’m always happy to explain more.

How long will it take?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer as each person’s journey is unique. The length of time in therapy depends on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, your level of commitment, and your readiness for change.

Many people begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and later move to bi-weekly as they gain stability and insight. Together, we’ll regularly assess your progress to ensure therapy continues to support your needs. Sessions are typically 50 or 80 minutes long.

How do I know if therapy is working for me?

Therapy progress can look different for everyone, but some common signs that it’s working include feeling more self-aware, better able to manage your emotions, experiencing shifts in how you respond to stress, and noticing improved relationships or boundaries. You might also begin to feel more aligned with your values and less overwhelmed by the issues that brought you to therapy in the first place.

It’s normal to have ups and downs in the process, but if you feel safe, heard, and supported, and you’re noticing small but meaningful changes over time, those are strong indicators that therapy is helping. And if you’re ever unsure, we can talk about it together. Your feedback is essential to making therapy feel useful and collaborative.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be a helpful tool in managing symptoms, especially in the short term, but it doesn’t address the root causes of emotional distress. Therapy helps you explore and understand the underlying patterns, experiences, and beliefs that may be contributing to your current challenges.

Research has shown that a combination of medication and counseling is the most effective approach, and I’m happy to support you in exploring that path if needed. That said, many people find meaningful and lasting relief through therapy alone, especially when using evidence-based modalities. Our work together will focus on understanding your experience and strengthening the inner resources that support your healing and growth.

Is the counseling service confidential?

Absolutely. Your privacy is top priority! As a professional secret keeper, I will not share any part of your story with others. The only thing that I would report to anyone else is if I hear of current child or elder abuse.

I am a nomad. Can I see you from the different countries I travel to?

Yes! I love working with nomads and understand the unique challenges of living and working across time zones and cultures.

As long as you are a legal resident of a state or region I’m licensed in (currently Florida or Oregon),  I am here to support you as you move around! Together, we can find flexible scheduling that works around your lifestyle, no matter where you are in the world.

Can I schedule sessions to fit my time zone?

Yes, I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate different time zones and busy lifestyles. Typically, clients settle into a consistent weekly or bi-weekly time slot to support continuity and progress in therapy. If your schedule varies or you’re looking for deeper, focused work, you might also consider the therapy intensive option.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I am not on any insurance panels at this time as I see people from all over the world.

The main benefit of paying out of pocket is that you will not need a formal diagnosis to do the work. When using insurance, one is given a diagnosis that is often on their medical records throughout their future. Insurance companies often have limits to the number of sessions and the type of diagnosis they accept; often, relationship distress is not one of the accepted concerns. Private pay allows the therapist greater autonomy to provide the services they deem are in the client’s best interest. By eliminating the need to diagnose a condition that may or may not fully exist, the therapist can ensure the clients receive ethical, honest, and accurate care.
